A guy
wearing a beanie and
a sign.
In printed letters,
something about being a
single father,
and needing money for diapers.
The light turned green.
Scrambled for my wallet,
dug out a bill, hoped it
was George Washington.
Thrust it to him, accelerating.
He smiled, said
Thank you.
God bless you.
You too I said.
And thought thank you for
saying 'thank you,' and for smiling.
He is a good dad, at
185th onramp in Aloha, Oregon.
