"Daddy?!"
My son hollered from deep within the woods.
"I got sap on my hands!!"
- "Okay!"
I said, replying with the prolific and frequent lie I have unfortunately given a billion times.
"I'll be there in just a minute!"
Two minutes later, he arrived to update me on the situation.
"I'm okay now."
Pause to swipe arm across his nose.
"My hands are okay now. I wiped the sap off in the dirt, so it's all gone now."
I looked at the walking, breathing body of dust, dirt, play sweat and inedible tree molasses I sired, and marveled at how much easier he had just made my life with his self-sufficiency.
- "Thanks Pigpen,"
I said, as he disappeared into the grimm forest.
